Does Every Wisdom Tooth Need to Be Removed?
Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. Some wisdom teeth erupt normally, remain healthy and can be monitored with regular dental evaluation. Others may become problematic because they are impacted, partially erupted, difficult to clean or positioned close to the neighbouring tooth.

Removal may be considered when a wisdom tooth causes repeated pain, swelling, infection, food trapping, decay, gum problems or damage to the adjacent tooth. However, the decision should not be based on pain alone. A wisdom tooth can sometimes create problems before significant symptoms appear.

Clinical examination and appropriate dental imaging help assess the tooth’s position, roots, surrounding bone and relationship with nearby structures. These findings help determine whether the tooth should be monitored, treated or removed.

If you have been advised to remove a wisdom tooth, understanding why removal is recommended can help you make a more informed decision.

The important question is not simply “Should my wisdom tooth come out?” but “What does my wisdom tooth need?”

For patients in Wakad and nearby areas, the right decision begins with proper evaluation.
