Why Does a Root Canal-Treated Tooth Usually Need a Crown?
You may wonder: “If the infection is treated, why does the tooth still need a crown?”

Root Canal Treatment removes infected or irreversibly damaged tissue from inside the tooth. But RCT does not automatically restore the tooth’s lost structure.

A tooth needing RCT may already have significant damage from deep decay, large fillings, cracks or trauma. Accessing the canal system also requires removal of some tooth structure. Once treated, the remaining tooth may therefore need protection against chewing forces and further fracture.

A crown or another suitable final restoration can help restore the tooth’s shape, function and protection. However, the best restoration depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains, the tooth’s location, its function and the forces placed on it.

This is why the restoration after RCT should not be viewed as a routine add-on. It is part of protecting the treated tooth.

If you are considering Root Canal Treatment in Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Rahatani or nearby areas, ask what restoration your tooth needs after RCT—and why.

Root canal treatment treats the inside. The final restoration helps protect what remains.
