Root Canal Treatment: When Severe Tooth Pain Means the Tooth May Still Be Saved
Severe toothache, lingering sensitivity, pain while chewing, or swelling around a tooth can sometimes indicate inflammation or infection of the dental pulp. When the affected tooth is still structurally restorable, root canal treatment (RCT) may be considered to remove the diseased tissue, control the infection and preserve the natural tooth.

Root canal treatment is not simply about treating pain. The aim is to retain a functional natural tooth whenever it can be predictably restored. Depending on the condition, treatment may be followed by a suitable restoration and, for many back teeth, a crown to provide additional structural protection.

Dr. Ashutosh Dighe, BDS, MDS – Oral Medicine & Maxillofacial Radiology, PhD Scholar, with a Fellowship in Contemporary Endodontics, evaluates patients with dental pain and endodontic concerns at OralNest Dental Clinic, Wakad. Treatment decisions are based on the condition of the tooth, surrounding tissues and the patient's individual needs.

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain in Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Rahatani, Pimple Saudagar, Hinjawadi or surrounding Pimpri-Chinchwad, timely dental care can help prevent an acute problem from progressing. A painful tooth does not always need extraction—in suitable cases, root canal treatment can help preserve the natural tooth.
