Is Bad Breath Really Coming From the Stomach? What Is Actually True?
Many people believe that persistent bad breath must be caused by a stomach problem. In most cases, the source of bad breath is within the mouth itself.

Bacteria on the tongue, plaque around the teeth and gums, gum disease, cavities, trapped food and dry mouth can all contribute to unpleasant mouth odor. These conditions can produce odor-causing compounds that become noticeable when they accumulate.

Digestive or medical conditions can sometimes be associated with unusual breath odor, but assuming that every case of bad breath comes from the stomach can delay attention to a treatable oral cause.

A useful first step is therefore to evaluate the mouth, teeth, gums, tongue, saliva and areas where food or plaque may accumulate.

If your bad breath persists despite regular brushing, tongue cleaning and good oral hygiene, the goal should not simply be to mask the odor with mints or mouthwash.

The better question is: “Where is the odor coming from, and what is causing it?”
For patients in Wakad, Hinjawadi, Baner, Balewadi and nearby Pune areas, identifying the source is the starting point for appropriate care.
