How Long Can You Leave a Missing Tooth Untreated?
There is no single timeline that applies to every missing tooth. Some people live with a gap for years without obvious symptoms, while others experience changes much earlier.

After tooth loss, the surrounding tissues continue to adapt. The neighbouring teeth may gradually tilt or move toward the space, the opposing tooth may move into it, and the bone that once supported the tooth can remodel and reduce over time. The extent of these changes depends on the tooth involved, its location, your bite, gum health and the condition of the surrounding teeth.

This is why the question is not simply “How long can I wait?” but “What is happening in my mouth while I wait?”
If you have had a missing tooth for months or years, an examination can help determine whether the space is stable or whether changes are already developing.
