Do All Missing Teeth Need to Be Replaced? What Determines the Right Decision?
A missing tooth does not automatically mean that everyone needs the same treatment—or even that replacement is always necessary.

The decision depends on several factors: which tooth is missing, its position, how many teeth are missing, your bite, chewing function, gum and bone condition, and the health of the neighbouring teeth.

For some people, a missing tooth may have little immediate effect. For others, the gap may contribute to tooth movement, changes in bite, difficulty chewing or progressive changes in the supporting tissues.

Age alone should not determine the decision either. A younger person and an older adult may have very different oral conditions and therefore require different approaches.
Replacement options can include an implant-supported restoration, dental bridge or removable denture, depending on the individual situation. The important point is that the treatment should follow the diagnosis—not the other way around.
Before deciding how to replace a missing tooth, it is worth understanding what the space is doing to your particular oral environment and what outcome you actually need.
