Can an Infected Tooth Sometimes Be Saved?
Can an Infected Tooth Sometimes Be Saved?

Yes. An infected tooth is not automatically a tooth that must be removed.

When infection reaches the pulp and spreads through the root canal system, Root Canal Treatment may allow the natural tooth to be cleaned, sealed and restored. Whether this is possible depends on the actual condition of the tooth—not simply on the presence of infection.

Important factors include the amount of healthy tooth structure remaining, the extent and location of the infection, the condition of the supporting bone and gums, the presence of cracks or fractures, and whether the tooth can be properly restored after treatment.

This is why two infected teeth may require completely different treatment plans.

A tooth that can be predictably restored may be considered for preservation. If the structural damage is too extensive or the tooth cannot be predictably restored, extraction may become the more appropriate option.

The goal is not to save every tooth at any cost. The goal is to determine whether the natural tooth has a realistic path to long-term function.

At OralNest Dental Clinic, Wakad, treatment planning begins with assessing the tooth before deciding its treatment.

For patients from Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Rahatani and nearby areas, an infected tooth deserves a proper assessment before assuming it must be extracted.

In dentistry, preservation begins with knowing what is actually possible.
