Can a Toothache Go Away Without Treating the Cause?
Yes—but disappearing pain does not necessarily mean the underlying dental problem has resolved.

Tooth pain is a symptom, not a diagnosis. In some situations, discomfort may temporarily settle because the irritation decreases. In others, the nerve inside a severely damaged tooth may lose its ability to respond, making the tooth appear comfortable even while infection or tissue damage continues.

This is why “the pain stopped” should not automatically be interpreted as “the tooth is fine.”

The important question is not simply whether the tooth hurts today, but why it hurt in the first place. A proper evaluation considers the history of pain, sensitivity, biting discomfort, swelling, previous dental treatment, clinical findings and, when indicated, dental imaging.

Depending on the diagnosis, the appropriate treatment may range from monitoring or restoring the tooth to Root Canal Treatment or, when the tooth cannot be predictably preserved, extraction.

At OralNest Dental Clinic, Wakad, the emphasis is on identifying the cause before deciding the treatment.

For patients around Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Rahatani and nearby areas, persistent or unexplained tooth pain deserves evaluation—not just temporary relief.

Pain relief can be temporary. A correct diagnosis explains what is actually happening.
